Tourists to Uganda have to pay more in order to obtain a visa. According to the latest updates from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, with immediate effect the visa fees for tourists have been increased from US$ 50 to US$100. This has raised mixed reactions from various tourism stakeholders including tour operators given that the visa fees were doubled by the government without making any informal note or prior notice .
Many tourists on arrival at the Entebbe International Airport in the past week were shocked upon being charged USD100 for visa entry. Many foreign embassy websites and diplomatic mission websites still show USD50 for tourist visas thus bringing confusion to those who had already planned to visit Uganda.
During the months of July – September Uganda receives a considerable number of tourists who take organized safaris within various national parks and an increment in visa fees without any prior notice has caught many by surprise.
