Mihingo Lodge is a peaceful and exclusive retreat adjacent to Lake Mburo National Park . It features ten rooms which are built on wooden platforms with stilts, covered by a thatched roof. Suspended under the thatched roof is a spacious and comfortable tent equipped with en-suite bathrooms with stunning views, including hot and cold running water, showers, and flush loos.

Each luxury tented room is nestled on a private piece of the lodge's property, enabling guests to enjoy the tranquil environment in complete seclusion. Placed in varied settings, some rooms are situated in a forest, some with a lake view, and some on rocky outcrops.

The main dining area is a large thatched structure built of rocks, the wood of dead weathered olive trees found on the land, and native grasses. Below the dining area, an infinity swimming pool stretches out from the rocks and seems to disappear into the vast landscape beyond.

From the dining and pool area, guests can enjoy the view of a westward oriented valley and its stunning evening sunsets over Lake Mburo National Park.

• After 11p.m sitting around the campfire, witch out for bush babies
• Enjoy a swim in the infinity pool overlooking the endless wilderness that is Lake Mburo National Park
• Mountain bike from the lodge to Bahima village. Look out for Ankole cattle with their large bow-shaped horns
• Boat rides on Lake Mburo which has the highest concetration of Fish Eagles in Uganda

To get there: take the road from Kampala via Masaka to Mbaara. Follow the first turn-off to Lake Mburo from the main road (approx 220kms) from the capital. Kenya airways flies from Nairobi to Entebbe three times daily.

Horseback Safaris in Lake Mburo National Park

Mihingo Lodge has now received a concession to operate horseback safaris inside Lake Mburo National Park where we found some fantastic routes. We carefully adjust the rides according to the riding skills of each group; for beginners and inexperienced riders we only walk the horses while for advanced riders there are also lovely stretches for trotting and cantering.

The best ride in the park is a 4 to 5 hour ride onto the 4 km long grassy Warukiri Range situated in the middle of the park with stunning 360 degree views of the surrounding hills and valleys in the Park. At the end of this range there is a waterhole, which often attracts buffalos and other animals combined with a magnificent view onto 9 of the 12 lakes surrounding Lake Mburo National Park.

This ride changes the whole feeling of the park, making it absolutely spectacular. All our rides are accompanied by at least one experienced horse guide, but in most cases there are 2 guides accompanying each ride.
