Sala’s Camp

Located in the less known southern area of the renowned Masai Mara, Sala’s Camp rests on the banks of the Sand and Keekorok rivers looking into Tanzania’s Serengeti on the opposite side. Sala’s Camp is nestled amongst an indigenous forest with views into the Northern Corridor, which is the route taken by the million wildebeest whose famous migration takes place annually. This makes Sala’s Camp the perfect spot to watch the Great Migration unfold.

Sala’s Camp upholds a long tradition of safari under canvas, in which accommodation is stylish but simple, and reminiscent of early pioneering days. The camp was originally used by owners Tanya and Mikey Carr-Hartley for their mobile safari operation, and is now their seasonal camp in the Mara. Each tent is spacious and airy, with ensuite bathroom complete with flush toilet and hot showers. Hanging temptingly in the trees in front of each tent is a welcoming hammock for more relaxing moments.

Safari from Sala’s offers the classic Kenyan experience. The Masai Mara is an area of prolific wildlife and supreme sightings. Early morning game drives are highly recommended as the animals stretch and wake up to the dawn light, and take the opportunity to hunt out their morning meal. Later on in the day, elephants lumber across the hills, and in the soft evening light the drama unfolds once more to reveal Africa’s natural rhythm. In harmony with this rhythm are the red cloaked Masai people, who live outside the National Reserve, and can be met in their manyattas (villages).
