The Eastern Africa Environmental Network (EAEN) is a non-governmental and non-profit making organization involved in environmental education, biodiversity conservation, poverty alleviation and promotion of sustainable development in Eastern Africa. The region covers Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mauritius, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda
The Network was founded in Nairobi in September 1990 during a workshop organized by the Eastern Africa Regional Committee of the IUCN Commission on Education and Communication, with support from, among others;
- The East African Wild Life Society (EAWLS)
- The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
- The Global Environment Project Institute (GEPI)
EAEN was established in 1990 to fill the gap of environmental networking in East Africa in order to improve the quality of life and to promote peace.
EAEN is committed to principles of impartiality, transparency, openness, participation in and discussions with parties of heterogeneous interests, with the aim of highlighting issues of sustainable development and conservation of natural resources to the general public. From this, it is expected that recommendations will be made and progress assessed.
